Amir Khan is a name known to many boxing fans worldwide. Over his 16-year professional boxing career, he amassed an impressive record of 34 wins and only six losses. Khan is a British boxer of Pakistani descent who impressed everyone with his lightning-fast hands and unmatched speed in the ring, earning him the nickname "King Khan."
Khan's career began in July 2005 when he made his professional debut against David Bailey, whom he knocked out in the first round. From this point on, Khan went on a streak of 18 straight wins, 13 of which were achieved through stoppage.
His first world title shot came in July 2009 when he fought Andreas Kotelnik for the super-lightweight WBA title. Khan won this fight via unanimous decision, becoming the super-lightweight champion of the world at the age of 22.
Khan had an exceptional career, where he faced some of the best boxers of his time, such as Hall-of-Famer Marco Antonio Barrera, Paulie Malignaggi, Marcos Maidana, Zab Judah, and Devon Alexander, among others. In May 2010, Amir Khan successfully defended his WBA super-lightweight title against Paulie Malignaggi, winning the fight via 11th round TKO. Later that year, in December, he again defended his WBA super-lightweight title by defeating Marcos Maidana via unanimous decision after 12 rounds.
In July 2011, Amir Khan became a unified super-lightweight champion by beating Zab Judah via 5th round KO, acquiring the WBA (Super) and IBF super-lightweight world-champion belts in the process. With this victory, Khan cemented his place as one of the best to ever grace the super-lightweight division.
Throughout his career, Amir Khan had a reputation for being a fierce and dangerous puncher, as his impressive record of 21 knockout wins proves. However, he was also susceptible to getting knocked out, with five losses coming via KO.
In September 2008, Khan suffered his first professional loss, a first-round KO defeat against Breidis Prescott, which ended his impressive 18-fight win streak. In total, Khan lost six times in his professional career, four of which came in title bouts and two in non-title bouts.
Amir Khan's career had its fair share of controversies as well. One of the most remarkable among them was his 2012 fight against Lamont Peterson, which he lost via a dubious split decision. Khan would later learn that Peterson had tested positive for a banned substance before the fight, which eventually overturned the result and made it a no-contest.
Khan's final professional bout came in February 2022 against fellow British boxer Kell Brook, where he lost via 6th round TKO. It was an emotional moment for Khan, who announced his retirement from boxing after a successful 16-year career.
Amir Khan's boxing career had its highs and lows, but his undeniable talent and exceptional boxing skill made him a household name among boxing enthusiasts worldwide. He was a fighter who always carried a winning mentality inside the ring and never gave up, even in his darkest moments. His two world titles and five successful title defenses speak volumes about his accomplishments during his career, making him one of the best boxers of his generation. It was an absolute pleasure to see him fight, and we wish him all the best in his post-boxing endeavors.
