Kevin McBride, the Irish heavyweight boxer, had a professional boxing career spanning over 18 years from 1992 to 2011. Throughout his career, he competed in 46 fights, winning 35, losing 10, drawing 1, and experiencing 0 no-contests.
Out of his 35 victories, 29 of them were knockout wins, showcasing his formidable punching power. However, he never won any titles or defended any titles during his career, and he did not achieve any title-fight KO wins either.
McBride's first professional boxing debut was in December 1992, when he fought Gary Charlton, and the match ended in a draw, making it clear that Kevin McBride was destined to be a fighter. From there, McBride went on to win 19 consecutive fights, including 16 wins via stoppage.
Even though McBride was never able to win any titles or defend them, he faced some of the best boxers of his time, including Mike Tyson, the boxing legend. McBride's win over Tyson on June 11, 2005, at the MCI Center in Washington DC, was one of the most surprising victories in boxing history. McBride was a massive underdog going into the fight, but he managed to get the best of Tyson that night.
Aside from Tyson, McBride has also defeated some other notable boxers during his career, such as Byron Polley, Yuri Yelistratov, Paul Douglas, Domingo Monroe, Lenzie Morgan, and Gary Winmon. Although he did not win any titles, his victories over these notable fighters show that he was a formidable opponent in his prime.
However, throughout his career, McBride lost ten fights, all of which were in non-title bouts. He suffered his first loss against Louis Monaco via 5th round Technical Knockout (TKO) on February 7, 1997, which ended his 19-fight win streak. Of his ten losses, seven were via Knockout (KO), and three were by decision.
McBride's boxing career came to an end on July 29, 2011, following a non-title bout against Polish boxer Mariusz Wach, which he lost via 4th round KO. In total, McBride retired from professional boxing with a record of 35-10-1, which includes an impressive 29 KO wins and seven losses via KO.
Looking back at McBride's boxing career, it is clear that he was an imposing figure in the ring. Although he was never able to win a title or defend it, he was able to defeat some of the best boxers in his time, which is a testament to his skills and determination. His victory over Mike Tyson will always be remembered as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history.
Overall, McBride's boxing legacy may be underrated, but his record speaks for itself. His powerful punches and notable victories over Hall-of-Fame fighters have cemented his place in boxing history as one of the sport's formidable heavyweights.
