Leonard Doroftei is a Romanian former professional boxer who made his mark on the sport during his brief career. Despite having only 24 fights, Doroftei amassed an impressive record of 22 wins, 1 loss, and 1 draw. Of his wins, 8 came by way of knockout, while his sole loss was via knockout.

Doroftei's debut fight took place on April 24, 1998, against Jerry Villareal. At the age of 28, Doroftei defeated Villareal via 4-round unanimous decision. From there, he went on to win an astounding 20 more consecutive fights, 7 of which were stoppage wins. It wasn't until his 20th professional fight that Doroftei had his first world title fight. In this fight, held on January 5, 2002, at the age of 31, Doroftei defeated Raul Horacio Balbi over 12 rounds via split-decision to become the WBA lightweight world champion.

Although Doroftei had a total of 24 fights, his career highlight was the victory over Balbi that gave him his first world title. This win put him on the map as a serious contender in the lightweight division, and he went on to defend his title once before suffering his only defeat.

On July 24, 2004, Doroftei suffered his first professional loss at the hands of Arturo Gatti. This fight, which took place in Atlantic City, ended in the second round when Gatti landed a devastating blow that sent Doroftei to the canvas. Despite this loss, Doroftei's career record remains impressive, and his performance in the lightweight division earned him the respect of many in the boxing world.

Some of Doroftei's most notable victories include wins over Charles Tschorniawsky, Gairy St Clair, Verdell Smith, Emanuel Augustus, Darelle Sukerow, and Martin O'Malley. However, it is his victory over Balbi that will be remembered as the pinnacle of his career.

Doroftei's career spanned more than 6 years, coming to an end after his loss to Gatti. In total, he fought in 12-round fights 5 times and went the distance in 22 of his 24 fights. He retired from professional boxing with a record of 22-1-1, including 8 knockout wins and 1 loss via knockout. Despite his relatively short career, Doroftei proved himself as a skilled boxer who was respected in the sport.

Although Doroftei may not be as well-known as some of the other great lightweight boxers, his impressive record speaks for itself. He may have only held the world title for a short time, but his victory over Balbi was a significant accomplishment that will forever be remembered in the history of boxing.
