Livingstone Bramble was a professional boxer from St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, and the first world champion from Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Bramble started his professional boxing career on October 16, 1980, in a matchup against Jesus Serrano, which he won via first-round TKO. He continued to build his reputation with many great victories, including his win over former world champion Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini on June 1, 1984.
The victory over Mancini was the highlight of his career when Bramble won his first world title by defeating him via 14th round TKO. He became the WBA lightweight champion of the world and successfully defended his title against the same opponent the following year in a 15-round unanimous decision.
Bramble's total professional career record includes 69 total fights with 40 wins, 26 losses, and three draws. Bramble won 25 fights by KO and has one world title at lightweight, which he defended twice. Bramble suffered his first loss against Anthony Fletcher via 8 round majority decision on August 31, 1981. He was defeated five times via KO and 21 times through the decision.
Bramble remained a relevant force in the lightweight division for many years, and his final professional bout took place on June 27, 2003. Bramble lost the non-title fight via 6 round unanimous decision against Armando Robles.
Outside of the ring, Bramble attracted a lot of attention due to his unconventional personality. For example, he would walk into the boxing ring with his pet snake around his neck, leading to rumors of him practicing witchcraft. Bramble did not deny these rumors and even admitted to the press that he was "the only Rasta prizefighter there is."
Bramble was also known for being a long-term vegetarian that didn't eat meat since the early 1970s. Despite this, Bramble did eat fish, and his diet consisted primarily of fish, spaghetti, fungi, pumpkin, and coconuts.
Even though Bramble hasn't fought professionally since 2003, he has never officially announced his retirement and often hints that he wishes to fight again. As of 2022, his career record stands at 40-26-3 (25 KOs).
In 2016, boxing journalist Brian D'Ambrosio published a biography of Bramble titled "Rasta in the Ring: The Life of Rastafarian Boxer Livingstone Bramble". The book provides an in-depth look at the life and beliefs of Bramble, giving fans an opportunity to get to know the flamboyant boxer on a deeper level.
In conclusion, Livingstone Bramble was a remarkable boxer with an impressive record of 40-26-3 (25 KOs) over 22 years. He was known for his eccentric personality and unconventional approach to life, which included being a vegetarian and keeping exotic pets such as snakes and ferrets. Despite not fighting professionally since 2003, Bramble's legacy as the first world champion from Saint Kitts and Nevis continues to live on in the boxing world.
