After achieving a record of 42 wins and no losses, he was given a chance to fight for the bantamweight WBC title.

On June 3, 1979, Pintor had the bout of his career as he defeated Carlos Zárate Serna via a 15-round split-decision, thus clinching his first world title and becoming the WBC bantamweight world champion. Pintor went on to win another world title at a different weight class, becoming a two-time world champion in his career.

He suffered his first loss against Magallo Lozada via 4 round DQ on October 16, 1974. He lost seven times via decision and was stopped seven times.

Pintor's last professional fight was a non-title bout against Russell Mosley on July 21, 1995, which he lost via 2nd round KO. The fight was the last of his career, which spanned more than 21 years, from 1974 to 1995. After retiring from professional boxing, Pintor had a record of 56-14-2, with 42 knockout wins and seven losses via knockout, and two title wins.

Lupe Pintor's achievements within the boxing ring were recognized when he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2016.

Overall, Lupe Pintor was an exceptional boxer who made a name for himself in the sport during his 21-year career.
