Ruben Castillo was an American boxer who fought in the Featherweight, Super Featherweight, and Lightweight divisions. Born on December 19, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, Castillo started his professional boxing career on January 24, 1975, with a fourth-round knockout win over Frank Ahumada in Tucson. Castillo's professional boxing career spanned over 22 years, from 1975 to 1997.

Castillo won his first 43 professional bouts, which included 20 wins via stoppage. Some of his notable victories include wins over Hall-of-Famer Jose Torres, Kelvin Lampkin, Jorge Morales, Antonio Becerra, Robert Anderson, Miguel Hernandez, Francisco Rodriguez, and Tony Cisneros. He also won the Arizona State Featherweight title on September 17, 1976, by outpointing Frank Ahumada after twelve rounds in their third bout held in Phoenix.

Castillo's first world title fight was against Alexis Arguello for the WBC title on January 20, 1980, at the age of 22. He lost the bout to Arguello via 11th round TKO. Castillo went on to fight three more world championship fights against Hall of Famers Salvador Sánchez, Julio César Chávez, and Juan Laporte. He lost all the bouts, and these losses were part of his 10 career losses.

Castillo had a successful boxing career with a record of 67-10-2, including 35 KO wins. He suffered four losses via KO and retired from professional boxing after his last fight against Rudy Zavala on March 20, 1997.

Even though Castillo did not win any world titles, he remained a popular boxer among Chicanos who appreciated him for fighting in places with large Chicano and Mexican populations, making him a popular boxer. During his boxing career, he received his nickname "Conquistador" for his strong fighting spirit in the ring.

Castillo's popularity among boxing fans saw him land a gig as a blow-by-blow analyst by the Western United States television sports channel, ASPN, before his retirement. After ASPN was sold to another network, Castillo found himself unemployed. He returned to boxing and won the regional, NABO Lightweight title by outpointing Manny Castillo over twelve rounds on September 24, 1996, in Tempe, Arizona. After losing his next bout against Rudy Zavala, Castillo retired from boxing for good, leaving behind a record of 70 wins, 10 losses, and two draws, with 38 knockout wins as a professional boxer.

In conclusion, Ruben Castillo may not have won any world titles, but he had a successful boxing career spanning over 22 years. He remains a popular figure among Chicanos and boxing fans alike. His record of 67-10-2, including 35 KO wins, is a testament to his remarkable boxing career that saw him fight against some of the best boxers in the world.
