Sylvester had his first world title fight in 2004, when he was just 24 years old. After 14 professional fights, he fought against Dirk Dzemski for the middleweight NBA title, and won via 7th round TKO to become the middleweight champion of the world. After winning the title, he successfully defended it against various contenders, including Mahir Oral and Billy Lyell, in 2010. In 2011, Sylvester lost his IBF middleweight title to Daniel Geale via a split decision, during his second title defense. Later that year, he lost to Grzegorz Proksa in a non-title bout, which marked the end of his professional boxing career.
