Yunieski Gonzalez, born on July 5, 1985, is a Cuban boxer competing in the light heavyweight division. Before moving to Miami, Gonzalez fought for the Cuban amateur team, building an impressive record of 345-27. In 2010, he turned professional at the age of 25 with a first-round knockout victory against Ramon Adorno.
During the early stages of his professional career, Gonzalez went on 16-fight winning streak, with 11 of the victories coming via stoppage. Throughout his career, he has fought in 27 professional fights, with 21 victories and six losses. All six of his losses were in non-title bouts.
Of his 21 wins, 17 have been victories by knockout. Unfortunately, three of his six losses have come via knockout. Despite this, Gonzalez has proven to be a challenging opponent in the ring.
Some of Gonzalez's most notable victories include taking down Tommy Karpency, Jackson Junior, Maxwell Amponsah, Alex Theran, and Edgar Perez. He also ranked ninth in the light heavyweight division by RING magazine on August 4, 2015.
On July 25, 2015, Gonzalez suffered his first professional loss. The loss came against Jean Pascal via a 10 round unanimous decision, ending his 16-fight win streak, and Gonzalez's career has experienced struggle ever since. He has lost his last three fights, with his most recent fight being a non-title bout against Australian boxer Paulo Aokuso on March 12, 2023. Gonzalez lost that bout via a 10-round unanimous decision.
Despite the setback, Yunieski Gonzalez remains a formidable contender in the light heavyweight division. The orthodox fighter stands at five feet eleven inches tall, weighing in at the light heavyweight limit of 175 pounds.
With a record of 21 wins and six losses, Yunieski Gonzalez's professional boxing career has been nothing short of impressive. However, his three recent losses have undoubtedly put a dent in his reputation. Nonetheless, at just 37 years old, Gonzalez still has time to revive his career and return to the peak that made him such a sought-after opponent.
