Akira Yaegashi is a retired Japanese professional boxer with a total of 35 fights throughout his career. He won 28 fights and earned four title wins in three weight classes. The boxer was born on June 23, 1983, in Ibaraki, Osaka, Japan.
Yaegashi made his debut in boxing on March 26, 2005, at the age of 22. His debut fight was against Omoyoshi Nakayama, which he won by knockout in the first round. After this fight, Yaegashi went on to win five more consecutive fights, with four of them ending in stoppages.
The boxer had his first world title fight against Eagle Den Junlaphan for the WBC strawweight title at the age of 24. Unfortunately, he lost the fight via 12 round unanimous decision. Yaegashi did not let this defeat stop him from pursuing his dreams.
Yaegashi won his first world title on October 24, 2011, against Pornsawan Porpramook. The fight was for the WBA strawweight title. In the 10th round, Yaegashi won the fight by TKO. This was an achievement that the boxer was rightly proud of.
Throughout his career, Yaegashi competed in many memorable fights against some of the best in the world. One such fight was against Srisaket Sor Rungvisai, who was the WBC super-flyweight champion at the time. The fight took place on April 8, 2014. The match was a tough one, but Yaegashi managed to win the fight via a close majority decision, securing his second world title.
Yaegashi's career was not without losses, as he had a total of seven losses in his professional career. Out of those losses, six were in title bouts and one was in a non-title bout. His first loss was to Eagle Den Junlaphan for the WBC strawweight title in 2007. The boxer has been stopped four times and lost three times via decision.
Despite his losses, Yaegashi continued to persevere, winning the IBF light-flyweight title on December 29, 2012, by defeating the Mexican boxer, Hector Gabriel Garcia. He successfully defended his title for the first time on April 6, 2013, against the Filipino boxer, Rey Loreto. Yaegashi won the fight via a unanimous decision.
On December 30, 2016, Yaegashi defended his IBF light-flyweight title against Wittawas Basapean. The fight ended in the 12th round with Yaegashi winning by TKO. This was another remarkable achievement in the boxer's career.
Yaegashi's retirement from boxing was announced on January 3, 2020, with a total of 28 wins, 7 losses, and no draws or no-contests. He won 16 fights by knockout and lost four fights by knockout. Yaegashi retired with four title wins in three weight classes.
