Alan Sydney Minter was a British professional boxer who gained fame for his achievements in boxing in the 1970s and 1980s. Born on August 17, 1951, in Penge, Bromley, London, Minter won a bronze medal in the light-middleweight division at the 1972 Summer Olympics when he was just a 21-year-old amateur boxer. He started his professional career with his first fight against Maurice Thomas in London on October 31, 1972, which he won by knockout in the 6th round. He went on to win his next ten consecutive fights, seven of which were by stoppage, making his record 11-0.

Throughout his professional career, Minter fought a total of 49 fights, winning 39, 23 of which were by knockout. He had 9 losses, eight of which were by knockout, and had one no contest. He never had any draws in his career. A southpaw, Minter competed in the middleweight weight class, standing at 5’10” with a reach of 71 inches (180 cm).

Minter won his first world title fight at the age of 28 on March 16, 1980, after 43 professional fights, against Vito Antuofermo for the middleweight WBA, WBC, and The Ring titles. He defeated Antuofermo via a 15-round split-decision to become the middleweight champion of the world. This victory made him a one-time undisputed middleweight world champion, and he won three world titles at this weight class.

He had his first successful title defense on June 28, 1980, against Vito Antuofermo, winning the fight via 8th round RTD. However, Minter's short run as world champion came to an abrupt end on September 27 of that same year, when he was stopped on cuts in the third round against Marvelous Marvin Hagler at Wembley Arena in London. The fight was controversial owing to a racist remark Minter made during the buildup, which he had later tried to qualify. A crowd riot ensued after the decision to end the fight with the referee agreeing that he could not continue.

Minter was known for his nickname "Boom Boom" or "Minty," and he had some notable victories throughout his career such as a win over Hall-of-Famer Emile Griffith, Vito Antuofermo, Monty Betham, Sugar Ray Seales, Gratien Tonna, Ernie Burns, Doug Demmings, and Kevin Finnegan. Despite some successes, Minter also had his share of losses. He suffered his first loss against Don McMillan via 8th round TKO on June 5, 1973, which ended his 11-fight win streak.

Alan Minter's professional boxing career spanned more than 8 years, from 1972 to 1981. His last professional fight was a non-title bout against Tony Sibson at 30 years of age, on September 15, 1981, which he lost via 3rd round TKO. Minter retired from professional boxing with a record of 39-9, which included 23 knockout wins and eight losses via knockout and three title wins.

Alan Minter was considered one of the greats of his era of boxing, with his record of victories and defeats detailing his career. He had an impressive 49 fights, with 39 wins, including 23 KOs. Minter had some notable wins during his career, including his victory over Vito Antuofermo in 1980 when he won his first world-title fight. However, his controversial defeat to Marvin Hagler ended his short run as the middleweight world champion. Despite some losses over his career, he remains a boxing legend and an inspiration to many both inside and outside the ring.
