Alfonso Gómez is a retired Mexican professional boxer who had a noteworthy career spanning more than a decade. Gómez fought in a total of 33 fights, with a record of 25 wins, 6 losses, 2 draws, and 0 no-contests.

Out of his 25 victories, 12 were won via knockout, and he had no title wins or title defenses throughout his career. In his title-fight debut, Gómez fought Miguel Cotto for the WBA championship but lost after the 5th round. Nevertheless, Gómez has beaten some top-ranked boxers, including Arturo Gatti, José Luis Castillo, and Raúl Muñoz.

Gómez made his professional debut against Pedro Antonio Ochoa at the age of 20 on May 19, 2001. It was a hard-fought debut, but he managed to win in a 4 round split-decision. Gómez had first made a name for himself in boxing circles by appearing on The Contender, an American reality TV show featuring boxing competitions among professional boxers under the watchful eye of coaches and boxing specialists. He reached the finals and finished in second place after losing to Sergio Mora in the show's final episode

Despite his success on the show, Gómez had to wait until he made 23 professional fights before he received his first world title fight. It was against Miguel Cotto for the WBA championship, and while it was a momentous event in Gómez's career, it ended in disappointment as he lost via 5th round RTD.

One of the significant wins of Gómez's career came against Arturo Gatti in 2007 in Atlantic City. Gatti was at the end of his career, but it was still a significant victory for Gómez. He won the fight via 7th round TKO.

Gómez fought twice for a world title, and both times he lost. Besides, he had four losses via decision and two by KO. Ishe Smith handed on his first defeat in his fourth professional fight via 4 round unanimous decision, while Luis Carlos Abregu gave him his last defeat, which was via a 4th round TKO.

Overall, Gómez had a decent professional boxing career, but he never reached the same heights as some of his contemporaries. He did, however, achieve success outside the ring, becoming an investor in cinema and television projects, and a lawyer after obtaining his license to practice law in 2017. He returned to the ring after a long absence in 2015, winning his final fight against Yoshihiro Kamegai via 10 round unanimous decision before retiring. Gómez ended his boxing career with a record of 25-6-2 and 12 knockout wins.

Alfonso Gómez's retirement from professional boxing marks the end of an era. He was one of many talented boxers from Mexico who have achieved success fighting in the United States, and his contributions to the sport will always be remembered. He may not have won a world title, but he still managed to make a name for himself in boxing circles, and his fans will always appreciate the effort that he put in the ring.
