Bobby Chacon was an American boxer who competed from 1972 to 1988. Born on November 28, 1951, in Pacoima, California, the legendary pugilist held titles in two weight classes, featherweight and super-featherweight. Standing at 5 ft 5+1⁄2 in (166 cm), Chacon had an orthodox stance and fought in a total of 67 professional fights in a career that spanned over 16 years.
Chacon's professional boxing career started when he made his debut against Jose Antonio Rosa on April 7, 1972, at the age of 20. He defeated Rosa via 5th round knock out, starting his long career in the sport. He went on to win his next 18 consecutive fights, with 16 of those wins coming by stoppage. After 25 professional bouts, Chacon had his first world title fight against Alfredo Marcano for the featherweight WBC (vacant) title on September 7, 1974. The young boxer defeated Marcano via 9th round technical knockout to become the featherweight champion of the world.
Chacon won two world titles at two different weight classes and was known for his aggressive style, coming forward with his fists from the first bell until the very end. He was a tenacious fighter who could take punches and deliver his own with equal ferocity. Chacon had one of the most exciting boxing careers, and his fights were often filled with action and drama.

Chacon fought and beat Ruben Olivares, a well-known name in the boxing world, on March 16, 1979, recording a 12 round split decision victory in a super featherweight bout. He defeated Danny Lopez on May 15, 1982, in a highly anticipated world featherweight title fight via a 15 round unanimous decision.
Chacon had a total of seven losses in his professional boxing career, of which four of them were in title bouts, and three were in non-title fights. He suffered his first loss against Rubén Olivares via a 9th round retirement on June 23, 1973, breaking his 19 fight win streak. Bobby had a total of 47 knock-outs while five losses have come via the same route, while the other two were losses were recorded by the judges' unanimous decisions.
In March 1975, Chacon defended his featherweight title against Jesus Estrada in a highly anticipated fight. Chacon demonstrated his skill as he knocked out Estrada in the 2nd round, which was both a successful defense of his featherweight title and a career highlight for the determined and skilled fighter.
Chacon won his second world title on December 3, 1982, against Rafael Limón in a super featherweight bout, defeated him via a 12 round unanimous decision. He successfully defended his title against Limon in their rematch on June 4, 1983, winning the game via a 15 round unanimous decision. Though after this win, his form dipped and he lost his next four fights, Chacon's career highlights and contributions to the boxing world meant that he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2005.
In his last professional boxing bout on June 2, 1988, Chacon took on Bobby Jones in a non-title heavyweight fight at the age of 36. Chacon endeavored on to win the fight via a 10 round unanimous decision signifying an end to a remarkable professional boxing career that spanned over 16 years.
