Breidis Prescott is a retired Colombian professional boxer who has competed in 48 fights during his 13 years long career from 2005 to 2019. Prescott had a remarkable start to his career with a debut win over Oscar Pineda in July 2005 via 1st round TKO. He went on to win 20 consecutive fights after his professional debut, with 17 stoppage wins included. Prescott had his first world title fight in December 2006 against Erwin Romero at the age of 23, just after 11 professional fights, and won the WBC super-lightweight title by defeating Romero with a 2nd round KO. He then won the WBC lightweight title in September 2007 by beating Franklin Arroyo via 2nd round KO.
Prescott's career highlights include defeating Amir Khan on September 6, 2008, via a sensational 1st round KO. Since then, the fight has been remembered as one of the biggest upsets in boxing history, and it helped Prescott gain recognition worldwide. However, it is worth mentioning that the fight almost did not happen due to visa issues, but the fight promoter, Frank Warren, successfully convinced the UK Home Office to grant Prescott's visa at the last minute.
Despite having a good start to his career, Prescott had 17 losses, all of which occurred in non-title bouts. His first defeat was against Miguel Vázquez via a 10 round split-decision on July 17, 2009, which ended his 21-fight win streak. In total, he lost 12 times via decision and was stopped five times. Prescott retired from professional boxing with a career record of 31-17, including 22 knockout wins and five losses via knockout, and two title wins.
Talking about his most significant victories, in addition to his wins over Romero, Arroyo, and Khan, he has also recorded wins over Orlando Solano, Anibal Polanco, Jason Davis, and Miguel Angel Saurez. His most memorable victory has to be his defeat of Khan, which took place in Manchester, England, in front of Khan's home crowd.
In conclusion, Breidis Prescott has a mixed professional boxing record with some remarkable bouts and few upsets. Despite having only two title wins and no title defenses, his victories have gained him worldwide recognition. His career spanning over 13 years has had its ups and downs, but his performance against Amir Khan on September 6, 2008, will always be remembered as one of the most significant upsets in boxing history.
