David Díaz, a former professional boxer from the United States, had a successful career spanning over 14 years, from 1996 to 2011. In his 41 total fights, Díaz won 36 fights, lost 4, and had 1 draw. He never had a no-contest in his career. Out of his 36 wins, 17 were by knockout. Although he never won a world title, he did become the WBC lightweight champion, which was the sole highlight of his career.
Díaz began his professional career at the age of 20 with a unanimous decision win against Marcos Antonio Rodriguez on November 30, 1996. He won 25 consecutive fights after his debut, 14 of which were stopped via strikes. In 2005, Díaz lost his first fight to Kendall Holt via an 8th round TKO, thus ending his 26-fight winning streak. Most of his notable victories, including the title win, were over opponents who are considered to be quite well known.
Díaz became WBC lightweight champion after winning 34 professional fights at the age of 31. His first title fight was against Érik Morales on August 4, 2007. In a 12-round fight, Díaz emerged as the winner. The victory is considered as the only highlight of his career. Díaz had just one title defense fight against Morales in September 2008, which he won by a unanimous decision.
David Díaz has had four losses in his professional boxing career, two in title bouts and two in non-title fights, and he lost three of those bouts via knockout. His last professional fight was against Hank Lundy in August 2011, which he lost via a 6th round knockout. Díaz retired from boxing after that fight with a record of 36-4-1, which included 17 knockout wins and three losses via knockout.
Some of Díaz's notable victories come against boxers who also had successful careers. He beat Ener Julio via split decision in 2003. Julio was a former world lightweight champion who had a record of 26-3-0 before his fight with Díaz. Díaz also defeated Robert Frankel in 2004, who had a record of 21-6-1 before his fight with Díaz.
However, Díaz's most notable victory was over Érik Morales in August 2007 when he won the WBC lightweight championship. Morales was a former world champion in three different weight classes and had a record of 48-5-0 before his fight with Díaz. Although he held onto his title for just one defense match, the victory over Morales solidified Díaz's place in the history of boxing.
In conclusion, David Díaz had a remarkable career as a professional boxer. He won 36 out of his 41 fights, with 17 of those wins coming by way of knockout. Although he never won a world title besides his WBC lightweight championship, he did face and beat notable opponents such as Érik Morales, Ener Julio, and Robert Frankel, among others. Although Díaz never had a no-contest in his career, he did suffer four losses throughout his career, of which three were via knockout. Despite the relatively fewer number of title wins, Díaz's impressive victory over Morales stands out as a testament to his skill and ability inside the ring.
