David Lemieux is a Canadian former professional boxer who held the IBF middleweight title in 2015. With a total of 48 fights, he has won 43, lost 5, with no draws or no-contests. Out of his 43 wins, 36 were by knockouts, which is a testament to his incredible punching power. He holds a record of only one title win as a middleweight, which he won against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam via unanimous decision in 2015. However, he was not able to hold onto his title as he never defended it.
Lemieux started his professional boxing career in a sensational manner when he made his debut at the age of 18 against Jose Candelario Torres on April 14, 2007. He defeated Torres in the second round via TKO. After his debut, he continued his winning streak for the next 24 fights, all of which he won via stoppage. He fought in some big events during his early career, such as ESPN's Friday Night Fights.
One of his most memorable fights took place on June 20, 2015, at the age of 26, where he defeated Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam for the middleweight IBF (vacant) title via unanimous decision. This 12-round fight made him the middleweight champion of the world. Although he held the middleweight world title once in his career, he was not able to defend it.
David Lemieux's total fights include five losses that he has accumulated in his career so far, three of which he lost via knockout. His first loss came against Marco Antonio Rubio via TKO in the seventh round on April 8, 2011, which led to the end of his 25-fight win streak. Since then, he has lost two more times via decision.
Lemieux's fighting style is best described as primarily offensive, with his outstanding punching power as his most significant advantage. He is known for his "Demolisher" nickname, which is well-deserved, considering his impressive knockout record. He has fought in three different weight classes; light middleweight, middleweight, and super-middleweight. He is an orthodox fighter with a height of five feet, nine inches and a reach of 70 inches.
David Lemieux has fought some of the biggest names in boxing during his 20-year career. He has had memorable victories against some of the top fighters in his division, such as Gary O'Sullivan, David Zegarra, Francy Ntetu, Curtis Stevens, Héctor Camacho Jr., Elvin Ayala, and Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam. Let's dive into some of the most memorable moments of his career!
On June 11, 2010, David Lemieux landed his first significant performance of his career when he defeated Elvin Ayala via first-round KO. The boxing world was stunned at just how easily he dispatched of his opponent. It was clear that Lemieux had arrived on the scene and was destined for greater things.
On March 11, 2017, David Lemieux faced Curtis Stevens in a highly anticipated middleweight title eliminator fight. It took Lemieux only three rounds to knock Stevens out, with a vicious left hook that sent Stevens to the canvas. It was a thrilling fight and further established Lemieux's power in the middleweight division.
On September 15, 2018, Lemieux stepped into the ring against Gary O'Sullivan in a super-middleweight contest. Lemieux dominated the fight right from the start, landing a crushing left hook in the very first round, which sent O'Sullivan down to the canvas. Although O'Sullivan managed to get back up, Lemieux continued to hammer him with a series of punches that led to the referee stopping the fight in the very first round, giving Lemieux the victory via KO.
Although David Lemieux enjoyed a successful career, one cannot help but feel that he could have achieved more. The fact that he won only one world title and was not able to defend it is quite surprising, considering his incredible punching power. However, the boxing world will always remember him as a fighter who possessed immense strength and the ability to knock out his opponents at any moment.
David Lemieux might be retired now, but his fans will remember him as one of the hardest hitters in the sport's history. He will go down in boxing history as a fighter who always looked for the knock out and kept fans on the edge of their seats. Although he might not have achieved his full potential as a fighter, he will always be remembered as a vital part of the storied history of boxing.
