Professional Career
Chudinov has been a professional boxer for over 13 years, starting his journey on July 10, 2009, in Reno, Nevada, against Shawn Kirk, which he won via a 1st round technical knockout (TKO) with 0:33 seconds left on the clock. Chudinov made his way up the ranks and secured the WBA interim super-middleweight title by defeating Ben McCulloch in Australia on September 11, 2014. With this win, he earned the right to challenge for the full world title. In his first world title fight, Chudinov challenged champion Felix Sturm on his own turf in Germany. The home fighter appeared to have some early success, proving to be more active with his punches. However, Chudinov showed great ring IQ and skill, especially in the latter part of the fight, and went on to win the fight by a split-decision (SD), securing his first-ever world championship title.
On September 26, 2015, Chudinov was scheduled to make his first defense of the title in the UK against British boxer Frank Buglioni, who was ranked #4 by the WBA. The fight was even for the first five rounds, with both fighters exchanging power shots on the ropes in the fifth round. However, in the sixth round, Groves unleashed a flurry of power punches from the beginning of the round. Even though Chudinov wasn't dropped, the referee noticed he was taking too much punishment and decided to stop the contest with 1:14 left in the round.
