Francesco Pianeta, also known as the Italian Ace, is a former professional boxer hailing from Corigliano Calabro, Italy. Pianeta had a prolific career spanning over 13 years from 2005 to 2018. He competed in a total of 41 fights, with 35 wins, 5 losses, and 1 draw. Out of the 35 wins, he achieved 21 knockouts, while 3 out of his 5 losses came via knockout. Pianeta initially made his professional boxing debut as a 20-year-old against Sylvester Petrović, defeating him via 2nd round KO.
After his debut, Pianeta went on an impressive 17-fight winning streak, which included 10 knockout victories. He was unstoppable until he came face-to-face with Wladimir Klitschko in a world title fight for the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles. That fight was his biggest career test, one he ultimately failed. The Italian Ace was knocked out by Klitschko in the 6th round and suffered his first professional boxing career loss, bringing his winning streak to an end.
Pianeta, however, continued to box, taking on some of the most notable names in the game. Some of his most significant wins include victories over Dašo Simeunović, Hasan Olaki, Edi Delibaltaoglu, Matt Skelton, Scott Gammer, Michael Marrone, and Johann Duhaupas.
Pianeta's professional career was active in Germany, with occasional fights in different countries. He fought in Italy, Ireland, Austria, Poland, and Belgium. His fighting stance was southpaw, and he belonged to the heavyweight weight class. Pianeta was known for his towering height of 1.96 meters (6 ft 5 in) and physical robustness.
Pianeta ended his professional boxing career on August 18, 2018, with a non-title bout against Tyson Fury at Windsor Park. Pianeta lost the fight, and it was his last before announcing his retirement from professional boxing in February 2019. He ended his professional boxing career with a record of 35-5-1, out of which he won 21 by knockout.
Francesco Pianeta's boxing career was a testament to his resilience and passion for the sport. He faced notable opponents, fought in different countries, and represented Italy in his fights. After his retirement, he continued to support the sport by becoming a boxing trainer, sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience with other aspiring boxers.
Though Pianeta's professional boxing career did not result in any world titles or defenses, his dedication and impressive record will always be a part of boxing lore.
