Gabriel Rosado is an American professional boxer who is known for his grit and fearlessness in the ring. With a professional record of 26 wins, 16 losses, 1 draw, and 1 no-contest, Rosado has faced some of the toughest competition in the sport and has come out victorious in many battles.
Rosado's career began over 15 years ago when he made his professional debut against Phil Hicklin in January of 2006. Rosado won the bout via 1st round TKO and went on to win his next four consecutive fights, two of which were won via stoppage. He then won his first regional title on February 26, 2011, with a 12th round technical knockout over fellow contender Jamaal Davis to win the interim WBA-NABA light middleweight title.
Rosado has fought in three different weight classes throughout his career: light middleweight, middleweight, and super middleweight. Despite never winning a world title, Rosado has won several regional titles, including the Pennsylvania state light middleweight title and the WBO Inter-Continental light middleweight title, which he won after stopping Sechew Powell in the 9th round on June 1, 2012.
On January 19, 2013, Rosado challenged undefeated WBA and IBO middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin at The Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Despite his best efforts, Rosado was dominated by Golovkin, who inflicted a nasty cut near his left eye in the second round. His trainer Billy Briscoe put a stop to the fight in the seventh round.
Two fights later, on October 26, 2013, Rosado challenged undefeated Peter Quillin for his WBO middleweight title. Despite many observers believing the fight to have been competitive, Rosado suffered a nasty cut on his left eyelid in the tenth round, causing a doctor stoppage and giving Quillin the technical knockout victory. Rosado yelled down at the Showtime commentary team that the doctor's stoppage was "bullshit" as soon as the fight was stopped, and he told Jim Gray that he wanted a rematch; a rematch ultimately never materialized.
Despite these setbacks, Rosado's career has been a mix of ups and downs. The fighter is known for his ability to take punishment and keep fighting, and he has faced some of the toughest competition in the sport. Some of his notable victories include wins over Glen Tapia, Bektemir Melikuziev, and Joshua Clottey.
Rosado's most recent fight was a non-title bout against Kazakhstani boxer Ali Akhmedov on September 17, 2022. Rosado lost the fight via 10 round unanimous decision, marking his third consecutive loss.
Throughout his career, Rosado has been known by the nickname "King." He was born on January 13, 1986, making him 37 years old today. Standing at 5 ft 11+1/2 in (182 cm) tall and with a reach of 71+1/2 in (182 cm), Rosado fights in the orthodox stance.
While Rosado has never won a world title, his willingness to take on tough competition and his never-say-die attitude have made him a fan-favorite in the sport of boxing. Despite his recent losses, it remains to be seen what the future holds for this veteran fighter.
