Gregorio Vargas, a professional boxer hailing from Mexico, was a WBC featherweight and super featherweight world champion. His professional boxing career spanned more than 16 years, starting from 1988 and ending in 2004.
Vargas fought in a total of 55 bouts, winning 45 of them, losing 9, and drawing 1. He never had any no-contests, and his record includes 31 knockout wins, one loss via knockout, and two title wins at two weight classes.
The featherweight world champion won his first world title after 31 professional fights at the age of 22, in 1993 against Paul Hodkinson for the WBC featherweight title. Vargas won the fight in the seventh round via TKO, and it remains his most significant highlight of his boxing career to date.
Vargas had his first professional boxing debut back in May 1988, where he defeated Raul Capitan with a 2nd round KO, marking the start of his successful career. After his debut, he won 10 more consecutive fights, scoring 8 of them via stoppages.
Some of Vargas' notable victories include wins over Paul Hodkinson, Christopher Saluday, Celso Delgado, Francisco Barajas, Julian Romero, Mark Reels, and Raul Hernandez.
Gregorio Vargas suffered his first loss on April 28, 1989, against Marco Antonio Ramirez via TKO, which ended his 11-fight winning streak. Vargas had a total of nine losses in his professional boxing career, including three in title bouts and six in non-title bouts. He was stopped only once in his career, and he lost the remaining eight fights via decision.
Vargas retired from professional boxing in 2004, after his final fight on November 6th against Eleazar Contreras Jr. He lost the fight via unanimous decision.
