Ivan "Mighty" Robinson, born in Philadelphia in 1971, is an American former professional boxer who began his career in 1992 and retired in 2005. Robinson's professional boxing career lasted over 12 years. In this period, he fought in a total of 46 fights, winning 32 fights, losing 12, and drawing 2, with no contests. He won 12 fights via knockout and lost 3 by knockout. Robinson was a talented lightweight boxer, standing at 5 ft 9 in (175 cm) with a reach of 70 in (178 cm). He had a career record of 32 wins, 12 losses and 2 draws, with a total of 12 KO wins.
Ivan Robinson had his first professional boxing fight against Pedro Cotto on October 20, 1992, at the age of 21. Robinson emerged victorious from this fight with a first-round technical knockout. After winning his debut fight, Robinson went on to win 22 more consecutive fights, including nine wins via stoppage.
At the age of 25, after 23 professional fights, Robinson had his first world title fight against Phillip Holiday for the IBF lightweight title on December 21, 1996, but lost to Holiday via a 12-round unanimous decision. Despite this, Robinson had a successful career, notably beating Arturo Gatti, Tyrone Flucker, Alric Johnson, James Crayton, and Mike McFail.
One of Robinson's most significant and memorable fights was against Arturo Gatti, in which he won in a unanimous 10-round decision. It was such an intense and exciting fight that several boxing publications named it Fight of the Year. Robinson and Gatti had another rematch, which Robinson also won, further cementing his status as a legendary fighter.
Despite never winning a world title, Robinson was known for his talent and sportsmanship, often fighting against some of the best boxers of his era. Robinson was widely considered a great fighter, especially among his fans, and fought some of the most iconic boxers in the sport, including Julio César Chávez Sr., Angel Manfredy, and Arturo Gatti.
Throughout his career, Robinson fought in some of the most notable boxing bouts of his generation. He held several titles throughout his career, including the USBA and NABF lightweight titles. Fans and critics agree that Ivan Robinson was an outstanding boxer, praised for his stamina and ability to fight through challenging fights.
In 2013, Ivan Robinson was inducted into the Pennsylvania Boxing Hall of Fame, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport.
After retiring from professional boxing in 2005, Robinson dedicated his life to promoting and training young boxers. He has been an inspiration to many aspiring boxers, especially in Philadelphia, his hometown, where he continues to be remembered as one of the best boxers to have ever come out of the city.
