James made his debut as a professional boxer on May 22, 2010, against Justin Danforth, whom he defeated with a third-round technical knockout (TKO). Following his debut victory, James won 19 more consecutive fights, which included 8 wins via stoppage.
On August 12, 2016, James suffered his first loss against Yordenis Ugas via 10 round unanimous decision, which ended his 20-fight win streak. The only other loss on his record occurred on October 30, 2021, during a welterweight title defense bout against Russian boxer Radzhab Butaev when James lost the fight via 9th round TKO, losing his WBA (Regular) title.
Despite his two losses, James has had some notable wins throughout his career. Some of his most significant fights include victories over Diego Chaves, Javier Molina, Thomas Dulorme, Jo Jo Dan, Mohammed Kayongo, Antonio DeMarco, and Juan Carlos Abreu.
James' professional boxing record is currently at 27-2, which includes 12 remarkable knockout victories and one loss via knockout. At one point in his career, James was ranked the 9th best welterweight in the United States and the 16th best fighter in the weight class worldwide.
In July 2019, Jamal James faced Antonio DeMarco in a final eliminator for the WBA interim welterweight title, which he won convincingly, with all three judges scoring the bout 98-92 in James' favor. He then faced Thomas Dulorme, ranked #10 by the WBA at welterweight, for the vacant WBA interim welterweight belt which he won via unanimous decision.
James' career hit new heights when in February 2021, the WBA elevated him from "interim" to "World" titlist, making James the holder of the WBA Regular welterweight belt. Unfortunately, James failed to defend his title successfully when he lost it to Butaev in his first official title defense. He lost via a ninth-round TKO.
Jamal James is a skilled and experienced boxer with an amateur record of 62-6. A nickname he earned was Shango, a moniker that originates from the Yoruba religion and refers to the god of thunder and lightning.
Despite his two losses, Jamal James is still considered a dominant Welterweight fighter and remains a significant threat to any opponent he faces. He has an impressive knockout rate, making him a dangerous fighter in the ring, and his experience has allowed him to improve rapidly over the past few years.
As of now, there is no official news about his upcoming fight or whom James might face next. Still, Jamal James will want to get back to the top and reclaim his title, so fans and analysts alike are waiting excitedly to see what the future holds for this talented boxer.
