Jameel "Big Time" McCline, born on May 20th, 1970, is a former American professional boxer. With over 20 years of experience in the boxing industry, McCline had a total of 57 fights, 41 of which he won, 13 of which he lost, and 3 of which ended in draws. McCline stands at 6 ft 6 in (1.98 m) with an 82 in (208 cm) reach and fights in an orthodox stance in the heavyweight division.
McCline began his professional boxing career in 1995 at the age of 25, having no amateur experience. In his debut, he defeated Brian Nix via 1st round TKO. It then took McCline 33 fights to get his first world title opportunity that came on December 7th, 2002, at the age of 32, against Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO title. Unfortunately, he lost to Klitschko via 10th round RTD.
During his career, McCline competed in four world heavyweight title fights, losing all four attempts. He faced Chris Byrd, Wladimir Klitschko, Nikolai Valuev and Samuel Peter, with each of these title bouts being for a different version of the world title. While unable to capture a world title, McCline did have his share of victories against former champions and top contenders, including Michael Grant, Lance Whitaker, Al Cole, Cedric Boswell and Shannon Briggs.
One of McCline's most notable losses was against Chris Byrd on November 13th, 2004, for the IBF heavyweight title. Byrd was down in the 2nd round, but he went on to win the fight by split decision in a very controversial matchup. McCline was one of the most successful heavyweights in the early 2000s, known for his punching power and technical ability in the ring.
On January 20th, 2007, McCline challenged WBA heavyweight title holder Nikolai Valuev in what was the first ever heavyweight title fight on Swiss soil. The two fighters had a combined weight of approximately 600 pounds (270 kilograms) on the night of the fight. The fight ended in controversy when McCline suffered a patellar tendon rupture of his left knee at the end of the third round while throwing a punch and was unable to continue. At the time of the stoppage, McCline was behind on only one of the judges scorecards.
McCline's last professional fight was on September 8th, 2012, against Magomed Abdusalamov in a non-title bout. Unfortunately, McCline lost the fight via 2nd round TKO. McCline retired from professional boxing with a record of 41-13-3, which included 24 knockout wins and five losses via knockout, and one title win.
McCline was known for his impressive stature in the ring. Standing at 6'6" with an 82-inch reach, he was a formidable opponent that intimidated many of his challengers. Many believed that his height and reach were among his greatest advantages, but he was also known for his skill and power.
One of McCline's most impressive performances was against Cedric Boswell, who he defeated via a 10th round TKO on October 3rd, 2003. This win earned McCline the IBF Intercontinental heavyweight title. However, this title was short-lived, as he lost his next fight against Chris Byrd.
Throughout his career, McCline had 13 losses, three of which were in title bouts, and 10 in non-title bouts. He has been stopped five times and lost eight times via decision. Regardless of his unsuccessful attempts at capturing a world title, McCline was a talented boxer that had an impressive career.
In conclusion, Jameel McCline was a powerful heavyweight boxer that had a highly decorated professional career with some of the most impressive performances in boxing history. Despite not capturing a world heavyweight title, his impressive record of 41-13-3 shows that he was among the most talented boxers in his day. McCline will always be remembered for his commanding presence in the ring, intimidating height and reach, and his technical skill and power.
