Walcott had his first world title fight in 1947, at the age of 33, against Joe Louis for the NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring heavyweight titles. Although he put forth an impressive performance, Walcott lost to Louis via a 15 round split decision. Walcott went on to win three world titles throughout his career, one in the heavyweight division. His most notable victory was when he won the NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring heavyweight titles from Ezzard Charles in 1951 with a 7th round KO victory

He also fought Joe Louis on two additional occasions, both for the heavyweight titles, but lost both times. Walcott's greatest career highlight was when he won the NBA, NYSAC, and The Ring heavyweight titles from Ezzard Charles in 1951 with a 7th round KO victory. The win made him the oldest man to win the heavyweight title at 37 years old.
Walcott retired from professional boxing after losing his fight against Rocky Marciano in 1953 via a 1st round KO. Walcott ended his career with a record of 51-18-2, and he was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.
