Jim Watt, the former lightweight boxing champion, had 46 professional fights throughout his career. He accumulated a record of 38-8, with 27 KOs, 1 world title win, and 4 title defenses. Watts had a total of 8 losses in his professional boxing career — one of them in a title bout and seven in non-title bouts. He suffered his first loss against Victor Paul via 6th round TKO on February 16, 1970.
However, Watts successfully bounced back and continued to make a name for himself in the boxing world. One of his best fights was against Charlie Nash, where he successfully defended his WBC lightweight title with a fourth-round TKO win. This fight took place on March 14th, 1980.
Another iconic fight and highlight of Watt's career was his first world title win against Alfredo Pitalua on April 17, 1979. After 40 professional fights, Watt won the WBC lightweight world championship via 12th round TKO. This was a major achievement for the Scottish fighter who went on to defend his title multiple times.
Unfortunately, Watts' career ended in a loss against Nicaraguan boxer Alexis Argüello on June 20th, 1981. This title defense bout ended in a 15 round unanimous decision, which resulted in Watt losing his WBC and The Ring Titles to Argüello. Despite this loss, Jim Watt continued to be a notable boxer and is remembered for his many accomplishments during his professional career.
