Jimmy Wilde

Jimmy Wilde, a professional boxer from Wales, is regarded as one of the best flyweight boxers of all time. Wilde had an illustrious boxing career that spanned over 12 years, from 1911 to 1923. During this time, he fought in a total of 150 fights and won an incredible 137 of them with just four losses and one draw.

Out of Wilde's 137 victories, 98 of them came by way of knockout, showcasing his incredible knockout power. However, Wilde never won a world title. Despite this, he is regarded as one of the most significant boxers of his era and was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.

Wilde began his professional boxing career in 1911 when he was just 18 years old, making his debut fight against Ted Roberts. Wilde won the fight in the third round via knockout, highlighting his incredible potential as a boxer.

Wilde went on to have many notable victories throughout his career, including wins over four Hall-of-Famers Memphis Pal Moore, Joe Lynch, Joe Gans, and Billy Papke. He also defeated Young Zulu Kid, Tancy Lee, Sid Smith, Tommy Noble, Joe Symonds, and Jimmy Buck.

Despite his many victories, Wilde suffered four losses during his professional boxing career. One of these losses was in a title bout, while the other three were in non-title bouts. His first loss came in 1915 against Tancy Lee via 17th round TKO, which ended his 94-fight win streak.  While Wilde was stopped three times, he lost only once via decision.

Jimmy Wilde’s final fight was a world title shot against Filipino boxer Pancho Villa on June 18, 1923. This fight was for the NYSAC and The Ring flyweight titles. Unfortunately, Wilde lost the fight via 7th round knockout, which left him without a world title to his name.

Despite the lack of a world title, Wilde's career was impressive, featuring many highlight-reel knockout victories. Many of his fights were notable due to the incredible power of his punches, and his style was often described as unorthodox but effective.

Overall, Jimmy Wilde's career is one of the most storied in boxing history. He may not have won a world title, but his incredible talent, knockout power, and numerous victories are forever etched in the history books. Wilde will always be remembered as one of the most significant flyweights in boxing history, a true icon of the sport.
