Josh Kelly is a British boxer with a professional record of 13-1-1, including seven knockout wins. Kelly made his professional debut against Jay Byrne on April 15, 2017, and won via a six-round unanimous decision. He subsequently went on to win eight more fights in a row, with six of them ending in stoppages.
Some of Kelly's significant victories include wins over Troy Williamson, Kris George, Peter Kramer, Walter Fabian Castillo, Jean Michel Hamilcaro, Jose Luis Zuniga, and Tom Whitfield. However, he suffered his first loss in his professional career to David Avanesyan via a 6th round TKO on February 20, 2021, and it is the only loss on his career record so far.
David Avanesyan has been Kelly's toughest opponent to date, and the 6th round was the most crucial of that fight, as it is when Avanesyan knocked Kelly down twice, forcing the referee to stop the fight. Kelly's inability to get up after two knockdowns was a cause for concern since his corner threw in the towel, making it apparent that he was hurt badly. The loss left Kelly disappointed, as he had trained hard for the bout, and it showed the dangers of the sport of boxing.
After Kelly's loss, he bounced back with a 12-round unanimous decision victory over English boxer Troy Williamson. The fight was not for a title, and it marked Kelly's third consecutive win since losing to Avanesyan. During his clash with Williamson, Kelly displayed his remarkable hand speed, excellent footwork and ring intelligence, making it a thrilling bout for boxing enthusiasts.
While Kelly has yet to win any titles or make any title defenses in his professional career, he remains a promising prospect in the sport, and his record speaks for itself. With a total of 15 fights to his name, Kelly has only suffered one loss, which he can learn from, and use to improve his skills going forward.
As Kelly advances in his professional career, it will be intriguing to see the caliber of opponents he will face and how he will fare against them. Boxing is a brutal sport, and anything can happen inside the ring, but Kelly's track record and recent performances suggest that he has what it takes to become a successful boxing champion someday.
