Joshua Clottey, also known as "Grand Master" and "The Hitter," is a retired Ghanaian professional boxer who competed from 1995 to 2019 in the light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight weight classes. Over his 24-year career, he fought a total of 47 times, winning 41 bouts, with 24 of those victories ending in a knockout. However, he also suffered five losses, all of which came by decision, while one fight was declared a no-contest. Despite his losses, Clottey was known for his exceptionally durable chin and the fact that he was never stopped.

Born on October 6, 1977, in Accra, Ghana, Clottey started his professional boxing career on March 31, 1995, at the age of 17. He made his debut against Samuel Lotsu, defeating him via a 6-round points decision. After his debut, he went on to win 19 consecutive fights in which 15 of those fights ended in a stoppage.

In 2006, after 32 professional fights, Joshua Clottey had his first shot at a world title when he fought Antonio Margarito for the WBO welterweight title. Even though Clottey lost to Margarito via a unanimous decision, he earned another title shot in 2008 against Zab Judah for the IBF welterweight championship. Clottey won the fight against Judah via a 9th round technical decision, thereby capturing his first world title.

Throughout his career, Clottey had notable victories over boxers such as Zab Judah, Calvin Green, José Luis Cruz, Mfaume Mfaume, Aziiz Mpomda, and Diego Corrales. His biggest fights were against Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, and Manny Pacquiao.

On June 13, 2009, Clottey fought Miguel Cotto at Madison Square Garden in New York City for the WBO welterweight title. Even though Cotto dropped Clottey in the first round with a jab, Clottey managed to give Cotto problems with his combinations throughout the fight. However, Cotto emerged as the winner with a controversial split decision.

In his next fight, Joshua Clottey fought against Manny Pacquiao on March 13, 2010, in Arlington, Texas, at the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. Clottey lost to Pacquiao via a unanimous decision. Despite losing the fight, Clottey became known for being one of the few boxers who were able to withstand Pacquiao's punches.

Joshua Clottey won his final fight on September 22, 2019, against Aziiz Mpomda via an 8th round technical knockout. He retired with a professional boxing record of 41-5, including 24 knockout wins and one world title win.

Throughout his career, Clottey was known for being a tough, orthodox fighter with a balanced combination of size, speed, stamina, power, endurance, ring savvy, and a solid chin. He had solid defensive skills, standing upright while holding his arms and gloves high to protect himself. As a result, he never lost a bout via knockout.

In conclusion, Joshua Clottey is a retired Ghanaian professional boxer who is known for his durable chin and never being stopped throughout his career. He fought in the light welterweight, welterweight, and light middleweight weight classes and had a professional record of 41-5 with 24 knockout wins and one world title win.
