Despite his late entry into the sport, he went on to win seven consecutive fights, with each secured via stoppage. By the time he had fought 25 matches, he was elevated to the WBA (Regular) welterweight world champion. He defended the title against Robert Guerrero on March 7, 2015, winning via a 12 round unanimous decision.
Thurman is a one-time unified welterweight world champion, having won one world welterweight title. In his career, Thurman has battled some of the most notable boxers in the sport, including Danny García, Robert Guerrero, Luis Collazo, Shawn Porter, Julio Díaz, Leonard Bundu and Diego Chaves, and won each of them.
While Thurman largely dominated the boxing world with his winning streak, he suffered his first professional loss against Manny Pacquiao, by way of a 12 round split-decision on July 20, 2019. This loss brought an end to his 29-fight win streak, and Pacquiao remains the only boxer to beat Thurman to this day.
Thurman's most recent fight occurred on February 5th, 2022. It was a non-title bout with fellow American boxer Mario Barrios. Thurman emerged victorious, winning via 12 round unanimous decision. It has been a little over a year since that fight, and Thurman is currently on a one-fight winning streak, with a professional record of 30-1.
To get a better idea of the highlights of Thurman's career, we should focus on some specific fights. His victory over Robert Guerrero on March 7, 2015, saw him successfully defend the WBA (Regular) welterweight champion title in his first world title fight.
On July 11, 2015, Thurman once again successfully defended the WBA (Regular) welterweight title, this time against Luis Collazo, winning via 7th round RTD. He defended the title again on June 25, 2016, against Shawn Porter, winning via a 12 round unanimous decision. His most significant victory came against Danny Garcia, as he became a unified welterweight world champion by defeating him via a 12 round split-decision on March 4, 2017.
