Lamon Brewster, born on June 5, 1973, in Indianapolis, Indiana, had an incredible professional boxing career that spanned over 13 years. With a total of 41 fights under his belt, Brewster secured 35 wins, with 30 of those victories coming by way of knockout. His career was nothing short of outstanding, having won one world title at heavyweight, along with three title defenses. Brewster had to endure a number of losses throughout his career, with six defeats in total. Despite this, Brewster's career highlights are what made him a household name in the world of boxing.
Brewster made his professional boxing debut at the young age of 23 on November 8, 1996, against Moses Harris. In his debut match, Brewster quickly announced his arrival into the world of professional boxing, securing a 1st round knockout victory against Harris. This paved the way for his future successes.
With his incredible power and skill, Brewster went on to win 22 consecutive fights after his debut, including 19 wins via stoppage. His winning streak eventually came to an end in May 2000, in a bout against Clifford Etienne. Brewster was defeated via 10 round unanimous decision, ending his 23-fight win streak.
Brewster's first-ever world title fight took place on April 10, 2004. It was against Wladimir Klitschko for the WBO (vacant) heavyweight title. Despite the odds stacked against him, Brewster's determination and skill won him the fight via 5th round TKO, crowning him the heavyweight champion of the world. This was, without a doubt, the greatest moment of his career and showcased his dedication to the sport.
For his first title defense, he faced Andrew Golota on May 21, 2005, defending his WBO title in a fight that lasted only one round. Brewster secured a victory over Golota via TKO, once again showcasing his power and skill. Unfortunately, his reign as heavyweight champion would not last forever.
Brewster had a total of six losses throughout his professional boxing career. Two of these losses came in title bouts, and four in non-title bouts. He was stopped twice and lost four times by decision. He suffered his second loss in a title fight against Lamon Brewster via UD on April 1, 2006. Despite his eventual defeats, Brewster remained a formidable opponent in the ring throughout his career.
After 41 professional fights, Brewster announced his retirement from professional boxing on January 30, 2010. His last fight, a non-title bout against Finnish boxer Robert Helenius, ended in an 8th round TKO. After more than a decade since his last fight, Brewster's successes have not been forgotten by the boxing community.
Brewster fought two notable Hall-of-Famers, Wladimir Klitschko, and Mark Johnson, along with other formidable opponents such as Andrew Golota, Luan Krasniqi, Michael Sprott, Kali Meehan, and Nate Jones. These fights were considered pivotal moments in Brewster's career.
Throughout his career, Brewster showcased an incredible amount of expertise, authoritativeness, and trustworthiness in his performances. His ability to knock down opponents with his powerful punches and impressive skills made him a force to be reckoned with in the sport of boxing. Brewster's record, coupled with his exceptional performances and achievements throughout his career, is why he will always be remembered as one of the greatest heavyweights of his time.
