Lehlo Ledwaba is a South African former professional boxer. His professional boxing career spanned over 16 years from 1990 to 2006. In his career, he had a total of 43 fights, 36 wins, 6 losses, and 1 draw. He won 23 of his fights via knockout and had 5 title defenses. Throughout his career, Ledwaba fought against some of the best boxers in the world and left an indelible mark in boxing history.
Ledwaba's professional boxing debut was on October 31, 1990, at the age of 19. He faced Ephraim Madi, whom he defeated with a fourth-round TKO. He had two more consecutive wins via stoppage before his first world title fight. On May 29, 1999, at the age of 27, he had his first world title fight against John Michael Johnson, which was for the super-bantamweight IBF (vacant) title. He defeated Johnson via 12 round unanimous decision to become the super-bantamweight world champion. This fight is considered the sole highlight of Ledwaba's career.
Although Ledwaba had an illustrious career, he suffered a total of six losses in his professional boxing career. These losses include one in a title bout and five in non-title bouts. He suffered his first loss against Joseph Ramaswe via a 2nd round TKO on July 24, 1993. Ledwaba's last professional fight was a non-title bout against Ghanaian boxer Maxwell Awuku at 35 years of age on November 24, 2006. Ledwaba lost the fight via 9th round RTD. After this fight, he retired from professional boxing with a record of 36-6-1, including 23 knockout wins and three losses via knockout, and one title win.
