Leonard Bundu

Leonard Bundu, nicknamed "The Lion," is a former professional boxer from Sierra Leone who competed from 2005 to 2016. He is best known for his multiple regional welterweight championships, including the European title twice between 2011 and 2016, the European Union title from 2009 to 2010, and the Commonwealth title in 2014. He also challenged once for the WBA interim welterweight title in 2014. As an amateur, Bundu won a gold medal in the light-welterweight division at the 1997 Mediterranean Games, welterweight bronze at the 1999 World Championships, and represented Italy at the 2000 Olympics, where he reached the second round of the welterweight bracket.

Born in Freetown, Sierra Leone, on November 21, 1974, Bundu started his professional boxing career at the age of 30. He made his debut against Peter Gaspar on April 1, 2005, and won the fight via first-round KO. He went on to win ten more consecutive fights after that, including two wins via stoppage.

However, Bundu suffered his first defeat against Keith Thurman via a 12-round unanimous decision on December 13, 2014. The loss ended his 31-fight win streak. He has been stopped once and lost once via decision, bringing his overall record to 33-2-2.

Bundu's last professional fight was a non-title bout against American boxer Errol Spence Jr. on August 21, 2016. He lost the fight via sixth-round KO. Since then, he has retired from professional boxing and left behind a legacy of being a formidable contender in the welterweight division.
