Luis Alberto Lazarte, one of Argentina's finest, was such a man. For 19 career-defining years, from 1996 to 2015, Lazarte battled the toughest competition that boxing had to offer, leaving a lasting legacy of guts and grit behind.
During his illustrious career, Lazarte fought in 67 contests, winning 52 with 18 coming by way of knockout. The boxing champ lost 12 bouts, two via KO and drew two to eventually finish with a record of 52-12-2. True to the sport, Lazarte's career was punctuated with its fair share of controversies, with one No-Contest marring his otherwise flawless record.
Early Years
Luis Alberto Lazarte began his professional boxing career at the age of 24, knocking out Angel Antonio Barros in the second round of his debut fight on March 2, 1996. After that initial victory, he went on to record eight more wins, one via stoppage, in a row.
First World Title Shot
After 19 professional fights, Lazarte had his first world title shot against Kermin Guardia for the WBO title. Unfortunately, the bout ended in a 12 round split-decision loss, which undoubtedly hurt Lazarte. Nevertheless, he wasn't one to dwell on the past, and within no time, he was back to winning ways, recording notable victories over Reginaldo Martins Carvalho and Bernardo Ramón Albornoz.
The World Title Win
