After 19 professional fights, Lazarte had his first world title shot against Kermin Guardia for the WBO title. Unfortunately, the bout ended in a 12 round split-decision loss, which undoubtedly hurt Lazarte. Nevertheless, he wasn't one to dwell on the past, and within no time, he was back to winning ways, recording notable victories over Reginaldo Martins Carvalho and Bernardo Ramón Albornoz.
