Larsen was born on February 9, 1973, in Mårslet, Denmark. He stands at a height of 5 ft 11.5 in (1.82 m) with a reach of 77 in (196 cm) and fights in a southpaw stance. Larsen began his professional boxing career at the age of 20, winning his first fight in Storebaelthallen, Korsoer, Denmark. He defeated Martin Jolley via a fourth-round knockout on the undercard of a bill that included Danish stars Johnny Bredahl, Jimmy Bredahl, and Brian Nielsen. Larsen went on to win his next 11 more consecutive fights after his debut, of which nine ended via stoppage.
Over the course of his career, Larsen had some impressive fights and notable victories. He fought and won against Roberto Cocco, Thulani Malinga, Hector Javier Velazco, Ray Domenge, Ross Thompson, Mohamed Siluvangi, and Shannon Landberg. These victories helped propel the Danish boxer's career and establish him as a true contender.
His first world-title fight came at the age of 30 on September 6, 2003, after 45 professional fights. He went up against Sven Ottke in a fight for the WBA and IBF titles but unfortunately lost via a 12 round majority decision. However, it didn't stop him from coming back stronger in his next fight, which happened a month later, as he went on to win the European super middleweight title against German Danilo Haussler on points.
In March 1999, Larsen put on the first remarkable performance of his career, defeating Thulani Malinga via ninth-round RTD. After 18 fights and only one loss on cuts, Larsen won his first title bout. He defeated American Shannon Landberg and won the vacant IBO world super middleweight title in May 1997 with a fourth-round knockout.
After winning his first title bout, Larsen went on a ten-fight winning streak, which included three title defenses of his IBO title. He picked up the WBF title in 1999 with a win over Thulani "Sugar Boy" Malinga via a tenth-round knockout on home turf at the Falconer Centret in Copenhagen. His next fifteen fights resulted in victories, and he remained unbeaten. This streak saw him challenge the fellow unbeaten fighter Sven Ottke for his WBA and IBF super middleweight titles. Even though Larsen lost the fight, it remained one of the highlights of his career.
Larsen had a shoulder injury and a dispute with his promoter, which kept him out of the ring for over three years. He returned to the ring in May 2007 after signing with Sauerland Promotions. Since his return, Larsen has won all of his fights, including winning the EBU title in a fight against Roberto Cocco on December 20, 2008.
However, Larsen's comeback bid was cut short in January 2010 after suffering a TKO loss to Brian Magee. He was accused of doping on the basis of a blood-sample but was cleared of all charges a few days later by the Danish Boxing Association. His last professional fight was a non-title bout against Luke Blackledge on June 12, 2012, in which Larsen lost via a fourth-round KO. Larsen retired from professional boxing with an excellent record of 51-4, which included 38 knockout wins and three losses via knockout.
In conclusion, Mads Larsen was a talented boxer whose career spanned over 18 years. He had an impressive record of 51-4, with 38 victories ending via a knockout. Larsen had exceptional fights and notable victories that helped cement his legacy in Danish boxing history, and he will be remembered for his skill and talent in the ring.
