Mercito Gesta, also known as “No Mercy” and “Guerrero,” is a prominent Filipino boxer who has been in the sport for almost two decades. He was born on October 12, 1987, in Labogon, Mandaue, Philippines, and began his professional boxing career on October 19, 2003, at the age of 16, with a unanimous decision win over Edwin Picardal.
Gesta has a career summary of 40 total fights, with 34 wins, 3 losses, 3 draws, and 0 no-contests. Out of his 34 wins, 17 were KO wins, while he has only lost once via knockout. He stands at 5 feet 7 inches (170 cm) and has a reach of 68 inches (173 cm) with a southpaw stance. Gesta has never won a world title, but he has fought for the IBF and WBA lightweight titles.
One of the most notable fights of Gesta’s career was his first world title fight on December 8, 2012, against Miguel Vasquez for the IBF title. Unfortunately for Gesta, he lost via 12 round unanimous decision, which was his first professional loss and ended his 26-fight win streak. Despite this setback, Gesta went on to have many victories throughout his career.
Some of Gesta’s best fights and notable victories include wins over Luis Arceo, Martin Honorio, Edgar Riovalle, Miguel Angel Mendoza, Gilberto Gonzalez Garcia, Joel Diaz Jr., and Oscar Meza. He held the WBO-NABO lightweight title in 2018 at regional level, and his most recent fight was a non-title bout against American boxer Joseph Diaz on March 18, 2023, which he won via 10 round split-decision.
Throughout his professional boxing career, Gesta has developed a reputation as a fierce competitor. He has a unique fighting style that combines his speed, agility, and power to overwhelm his opponents. He is known for his ability to move around the ring and throw powerful punches, particularly with his left hand, given his southpaw stance.
Despite not having won a world title yet in his career, Gesta remains one of the most skilled and talented boxers in the lightweight division. His record of 34-3-3 speaks for itself, with two consecutive victories paving the way for more opportunities to come.
Overall, Mercito Gesta is an accomplished boxer who has had an impressive career thus far. Given his talent and dedication, it would not be surprising to see him win a world title in the near future. His fighting style and explosive performances in the ring are just some of the reasons why he has become a fan-favorite over the years.
