Micky Ward, a former professional boxer, was well-known for his incredible punching power and his ability to withstand punishment. He fought in a total of 51 fights, winning 38 and losing 13. He had no draws and no no-contests.
Ward had a total of 27 knockouts throughout his career, demonstrating his incredible power. He also had no title wins and no title-defenses in his career. Despite this, he had some impressive victories throughout his career, including wins over Hall-of-Famer Arturo Gatti, Steve Quinonez, Jermal Corbin, Reggie Green, Mark Fernandez, Shea Neary, and Jose Luis Mendez.
Ward's career spanned more than 17 years, from 1985 to 2003. He made his professional debut at the age of 19 on June 13, 1985, against David Morin, winning via first-round TKO. Following this debut, he went on to win 13 more consecutive fights, including 9 wins via stoppage.
After 37 professional fights, Ward had his first world title fight on August 9, 1997, at the age of 31, against Vince Phillips for the IBF title. Unfortunately, he lost to Phillips via third round TKO.
Ward suffered a total of 13 losses in his professional boxing career, with one of them being in a title bout and 12 in non-title bouts. His first loss was against Edwin Curet via a ten-round split-decision on September 25, 1987, which ended his 14-fight win streak. He has been stopped once and lost 12 times via decision.
One of the most notable fights in Ward's career was his first fight against Arturo Gatti, which took place on May 18, 2002. This fight is often regarded as one of the greatest fights in boxing history. The two fighters exchanged brutal punches for ten rounds, with Ward coming out on top via a majority decision.
The two fighters had a rematch on November 23, 2002, which was also an incredible fight. However, this time around, Gatti emerged victorious, winning via a unanimous decision. Ward's last professional fight was a non-title rematch against Arturo Gatti on June 7, 2003, which he lost via a ten-round unanimous decision.
Despite not having any world title wins, Micky Ward's name is still well-known in the boxing world. His incredible power and ability to take a punch, along with his memorable fights, have solidified his place as a boxing legend.
