Mike Weaver is an American retired professional boxer who competed from 1972 to 2000, spanning more than 28 years. During his career, he participated in 60 professional fights, out of which he won 41, lost 18, and drew one, with no no-contests. He achieved 28 knockout wins and suffered 12 losses via KO, and won two world titles in the heavyweight division.

Mike Weaver began his professional boxing career at the age of 21, facing off against Howard Smith on September 14, 1972. Unfortunately, he lost the fight via 3rd round KO. It took Weaver more than seven years and 27 professional fights later before he had his first world title shot.

On June 22, 1979, Weaver got his first world-title shot against Larry Holmes for the WBC heavyweight title. Despite putting up a commendable effort, Weaver lost to Holmes in the 12th round via TKO. Marred by the loss, Weaver was determined to get another shot at the title, and that's precisely what he got more than nine months later.

On March 31, 1980, Weaver faced John Tate for the WBA heavyweight title. The fight went the distance, and Weaver didn't disappoint, finishing Tate with a 15th round KO to win his first world title. This win was undoubtedly the most memorable moment of his career.

Weaver then defended his WBA heavyweight title against Gerrie Coetzee on October 25, 1980, and he emerged victorious via 13th round TKO. This was followed by another successful title defense against quick-rising and highly-rated James "Quick" Tillis. Tillis was highly touted as the next big thing in the heavyweight division, but Weaver stunned the boxing world, winning the bout via unanimous decision.

After failing to defend his title against Michael Dokes in 1982, Weaver went through a turbulent time in his career, losing five bouts in his next six fights. However, he bounced back in 1986, achieving one of his best wins against Carl Williams via 2nd round TKO. The win catapulted him back into the conversation as a title contender.

Weaver retired from professional boxing with a record of 41-18-1, having fought some of the best fighters of his era, including the likes of Larry Holmes, Michael Dokes, and Riddick Bowe, among others. He remains a sentimental favorite for boxing fans who watched him during his prime.

Mike Weaver will always be remembered as a fierce competitor who rose to the pinnacle of his sport during one of boxing's most fascinating eras. His warrior spirit, determination, and unquestionable punching power were the attributes that made him so popular among fans, and it's what endeared him to the hearts of boxing followers for generations to come.
