Nigel Benn, a two-weight world boxing champion, was well known for his explosive punching power in the ring. His boxing career spanned over 9 years, from 1987 to 1996, and he fought a total of 48 times. During this time, he won 42 fights, drew once and lost five times. Benn's first world title fight was against Doug DeWitt for the middleweight WBO title in 1990. He won the fight via TKO in the 8th round, becoming the middleweight champion of the world. Later in 1992, he won the WBC super-middleweight title by defeating Mauro Galvano via TKO in the 4th round.
Benn had several remarkable fights during his career. One of his best performances was against Iran Barkley, whom he defeated via a 1st round TKO to defend his middleweight title. He also had an exceptional defense against Lou Gent, whom he defeated via TKO in the 4th round to defend his WBC super-middleweight title.
However, one of the most memorable fights of Benn's career was against Gerald McClellan in 1995. Benn defended his WBC super-middleweight title against McClellan and won the fight via KO in the 10th round. It was a vicious fight, and both boxers gave it their all, but Benn proved to be the better fighter.
Sadly, Benn also suffered some notable defeats during his career. He lost to Michael Watson, Chris Eubank, Thulani Malinga, and Steve Collins. His fight against Michael Watson ended his 22-fight win streak, and he suffered his first knockout loss.
Benn retired from professional boxing in 1996, with a career record of 42 wins, five losses, one draw, and 35 knockouts. He made a name for himself in the world of boxing, and his legacy continues to this day.
In conclusion, Nigel Benn was an accomplished boxer who had one of the most impressive knockout ratios in boxing history.
