Ricky Burns is a retired Scottish professional boxer born on April 13, 1983, in Bellshill, North Lanarkshire. He was one of the most respected boxers of his time with a professional career spanning over 18 years between 2001 and 2019. Burns retired from professional boxing with a record of 43-8-1, which included 16 knockout wins, and two title wins.
Burns made his professional boxing debut in October 2001, at the young age of 18, against Woody Greenaway, defeating him via a 4 round PTS. After his debut, he went on to win 12 more consecutive fights, two of which he won via stoppage. This impressive start to his career set the tone for what was to come in the following years.
Burns had his first world title fight on September 4, 2010, against Román Martínez for the super-featherweight WBO title.
