He continued his unbeaten record until November 9, 2013, when he faced Demetrius Andrade for the WBO (vacant) title in his first-ever world title fight. Unfortunately, he lost to Andrade, ending his 33-fight unbeaten streak. Martirosyan won his last fight on August 5, 2017, against journeyman fighter, Ishmael Gonzalez, before suffering a second-round knockout loss to Kazakhstani superstar Gennady Golovkin on May 5, 2018.

While Martirosyan made a name for himself through his knockout power, he also possessed considerable defensive skills. Unfortunately, these skills were not enough to deny him defeats in world title challenges against Demetrius Andrade, Erislandy Lara, and Jermell Charlo.
It is worth mentioning that Martirosyan had one loss via knockout, which he suffered at the hands of Gennady Golovkin. This loss occurred in the second round of his last professional fight on May 5, 2018.
Martirosyan is a remarkable fighter who showed grit and determination throughout his professional career, and he often demonstrated outstanding technical ability in the ring. His strength in the light-middleweight and middleweight classes was a source of awe for fanatics of his time.
In summary, Vanes Martirosyan was a towering presence in boxing for over a decade. Although he could never clinch a world title, his prowess for knocking out opponents made it hard for anyone who stepped into the ring with him. He retired with a professional record of 36 wins, four losses, 21 knockouts, and one draw. Even though his reign as an active professional is now over, his impact on the sport of boxing cannot be overlooked, and he will remain a legend in the hearts of boxing fanatics for years to come.
