Arturo Gatti was a legendary Italian-Canadian boxer who fought professionally for 16 years. He was born on April 15, 1972, in Cassino, Italy, and raised in Lazio, a region of central western Italy, before he moved to Montreal, Canada. Gatti eventually relocated to Jersey City, New Jersey, as a teenager where he found a manager he trusted and decided to turn pro. Gatti was a member of the Canadian National team, and he was training to represent Canada at the 1992 Summer Games, but he decided to turn pro instead at the age of 19. His professional boxing debut was on the night of June 10, 1991, with a third-round knockout of Jose Gonzalez in Secaucus, New Jersey.

Gatti had a total of 49 professional fights, with 40 wins and nine losses. He had no draws or no-contests throughout his career. Gatti was known for his impressive record of 31 knockouts of his total wins. His notable wins include his world title wins and defenses as well as wins over Leonard Doroftei, Jesse James Leija, Thomas Damgaard, Micky Ward, and Gianluca Branco, among others. Career Summary

Arturo Gatti's professional boxing career spanned more than 16 years—from 1991 to 2007. He won his first five consecutive fights after his debut, which included four wins via stoppage. He had his first world title fight at the age of 23 on December 15, 1995, after 24 professional fights, against Tracy Harris Patterson for the super-featherweight IBF title. He defeated Patterson via 12 round unanimous decision to become the super-featherweight champion of the world. From there, Gatti went on to defend his world titles several times and won multiple bouts that were named "Fight of the Year" by Ring Magazine.

Gatti won two world titles at two weight classes. He first won the IBF super featherweight title from 1995 to 1998, then the WBC super lightweight title from 2004 to 2005. He had a total of five title defenses under his belt with four wins via KO. His accomplishments in the ring earned him a spot in the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) in 2013.

Gatti also had a total of nine losses in his professional boxing career, two of them in title bouts, and seven in non-title bouts. He suffered his first loss against King Solomon via 6 round split-decision on November 17, 1992. He was stopped five times and lost four times via decision. Gatti's last professional fight was a non-title bout against Mexican boxer Alfonso Gomez at 35 years of age on July 14, 2007. Gatti lost the fight via 7th round TKO.
